Cons: not compostable (packaging is recyclable)
Review: This is a great start to rid the planet of all the loofas that are hurting our environment (through landfills and micro-plastics). Very clean and durable. Makes showering even better!
Do we always match our loofah with our shower attire? No…but do we always ensure our loofah is made of biodegradable material? Yes
Happy Sustainable Sunday! This week we are continuing with the trend of personal care…this one will be just a little cleaner.
After converting to a sponge pouf from the traditional washcloth, we thought we were in this bubbly sudsy bliss. But little did we know, we were causing more of a mess than what we were cleaning. Poufs -which we’ve been incorrectly calling loofahs until today- although may do a great job creating suds and exfoliating your skin, have very harmful side effects. That magical ball of puffy material may clean well, but all those nooks and crannies become a breeding ground for bacteria. After months of use, your basically cleaning yourself with some grimy bacteria…yah nastyyy. Secondly, poufs are made of synthetic plastic material, which means every time you toss one out, it ends up in a landfill, or worse, our oceans. And to make matters worse, each time you use a pouf, millions of microfibers/micro-plastics wash away into the drain and can ultimately enter a local water source. This plastic material, which can be very harmful to our health, ends up in our bodies and our drinking water…not so clean anymore are we…
Thats where @boieusa steps in to clean up this mess. In every aspect of their products’ designs, they make personal care more sustainable. Because as much as it helps, making something recyclable isn’t enough. BoIE’s body scrubbers are not only 100% recyclable and more durable (each lasting 6-12 months) than your typical loofah, but also don’t even contribute to the already flawed recycling system. Instead, the material can be melted down and reformed again and again, allowing customers to send their old products back to be made into something new!
These scrubbers work fantastically, creating a sudsy experience and exfoliating your body of those gross dead skin cells in a non-harmful way. These poufs, along with other plastic personal care items contribute to over 50 million pounds of annual landfill waste. You just made it one product less! Let's bring showering back to being clean!
